We Did It!
28K's of glorious running, behind us now.
For a big run; preparation is everything - and Tommy and I would've finished before we had even started if we had been any more ready for it.
December 30 to Jan 3 = Drinking Piss all day, everyday, and eating crappy, uncooked food, and late nights, with little sleep due to the tents, hard grounds and drunken idiots everywhere. Along with this was the six pack of Coopers the night before the run and then the bogging of the Kombi in the caravan park 10minutes before the run was due to start - just what we needed as we hit the starting line with every bright eyed bugger (of which there were 80-100), raring to burn off.
Cuttin' it down from here:
Tom immediately ripped away from me up the first persistent hill that then ran straight into the Arthur's Seat Hill climb. Needless to say I basically did not see him again.
Settling in to my run, it was so amazing. I found myself in a group of about 10 others and we chop and changed position the entire way.
The tracks, the views, the up and down hills, the steps, the fernery and prickles and the final quick five km stretch that consisted of fun and fun.
I hit a couple of walls during the run and took forever to get any gu's into me, as well as water - but once i had eaten and hydrated as well as adjusted my hradtion belt, I was away.
My first third and second thirds of the run were of a very similar time (shows how poor my second third was - "my walls were there"), but my last third was blistering in comparison. I thought my run was well measured by my standards, however perhaps i should've pusshed a little harder in the first and second thirds.
I finished on the biggest high! It was just ace. so much fun. such a challenge, and now i'm just ready for something bigger.
I passed Tommy with about 1km still to run and I powered home to finish in 2:34:11, which I was pretty happy with. I beat everyone in my group of runners, as well as a few more who were up ahead of us for 95% of the run. My goal was to be under 2:40, however I don't ever want to run it again and go over 2:30.
'Til next time ....BUZZZZZzzzzz
GB.
