Yeh preparation for the run was solid beers went down well tried to keep up with the water, beach runs, bbq, good times. Got bitten by a spider(?) 2 nights before the run in my sleep. I don't know it affected anything but i do know my bum bag gave me absolute grief. Any jogs up to 30k from now on i will not be taking any thing except a bottle of clean water.
So i had set out with the intention of running the 56k. I'm glad i didnt because the bumbag on my back has grazed it to the point it still hasnt healed. The water i took with me i had filled with chia thinking it would save on digestion time from any thing i would eat but it made me sick in the guts and slowed me to a walk for the last 3k. Lesson learned. Another lesson was in pacing myself, i felt okay skipping from pack to pack but i am not sure if i tired more from the nutrition on the day. Will have to work on that too. I posted a respectable time but definitely room for improvement. Al still seemed pretty sprightly when he passed me near the end and i think he ran a lot better in that slow and steady wins the race. I imagine the farther you run, the truer that is.
